There is a lot of sadness around cancer, but I'd love to put a light on something more positive! I recently attended a work shop called Look Good,
Feel Better.
It's run all over Aotearoa with the aim of helping woman and men in a cancer journey to look after themselves with different skin and hair products and to feel more confident.
What I love about this is that it is run by volunteers💜 they offer classes online and in person and they are FREE!
I would recommed attending one in person as you get to meet other people in your community that are going through a similar situation and did I mention that you get a goodie bag of treats! Mine had the most beautiful Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palette and Lancome foundation ☺️.
Its easy to book online and choose a class and date that suits you. There is a series of questions they will ask as you fill out the form, it asks things like what color your eyes are, and your skin tone. I had thought that was strange at first but once I recieved my goodies, I understood! They try to put together a personalised kit that will suit your skin tone and style of make up choice. You'll know i'm not a big make up gal, but the products I do like to wear were in my goodie bag! Nice natural colors. I couldn't believe it ☺️🥳
Treats aside, It's such a nice afternoon and all about upbuilding association during what can be a difficult time. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet some lovely ladies and trying on different make up and wigs!
Jo Wood who is the head volunteer here in northland said to me, Isn't it SO important to focus on positivity and colour that being with "fellow travellers" can bring? She was right, we all started off a bit quiet, but by the end of the afternoon we had shared tid bits on our current journeys and had a few laughs. Yes cancer sucks, but it doesn't have to all be sad and glum. My good friend Carna joined me on this afternoon and she took some snaps of the day! I wish we had taken more.
One last lovely mantra from Jo Wood, " You are Strong, You are Amazing". You can tell by the warmth and care of the lovely ladies that are volunteering that they care so much about helping people to Look Good and Feel Better, I cannot recommend enough.
Here is the link to the website, feel free to check it out! and if you can, please donate or volunteer to this wonderful initiative.
