Exercise and Rest

Ruby Smith

There is a lot of different opinions on whether you should exercise or not. If you know me, you will know I was a frequent gym goer, and trained all through my pregnancy. So this has clearly been aspect of my life that's taken a bit of a back seat. Its not gone from my heart but it's definitley made me realize how important rest is for healing. To be honest tho, Iv struggled a lot with not being able to move the way I am used too. Normal things like getting out of bed were my exercise for the better part of two weeks after my first surgery and I'm happy to say at 5 weeks post surgery, Iv been back to walking most days and it's felt great to move again and knowing i'm back to surgery on Monday is a little annoying but I also realize it's part of what needs to happen to being healthy again.

Iv been researching about chemotherapy and exercise and it does seem to be apart of keeping your mind healthy, but I doubt I'll be setting the same goals as before. In all seriousness tho, having a muscle or lifting goal seems very low in priority compared to the mountain Im preparing to

climb (beating cancer) but I'd like to at least think that keeping up with a walking routine (walking our dog) and perhaps yoga will be imperative in keeping good spirits but it's likely a "cross that bridge" situation and I've been learning the art of letting things go, especially if it's not within my control.

If you have been through chemotherapy, how did you find your experience? Iv heard many stories but it's always comforting to hear of different experiences and how you coped through and if you found exercise helpful.
