2nd Chemo and getting back to normal - ish

Ruby Smith

I had my 2nd round of chemo on Thursday. I did notice it more than the first time.

My veins are starting to get tricky and it took a few failed attempts to get the needle in and have success. To be honest, blood tests and needles never bothered me in the past but I am starting to get sensitive to the needle now and it hurts like hell. Not gonna lie. This is why they often would recommend a port-a-cath, these can be inserted just below the surface of the skin and all your IV lines can go into that and you don't have to worry about veins blowing. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time between surgery and chemo for me to have this done. So here is hoping veins hold out for the next few months.

Life since starting chemo has started to resemble some kind of new normal. Both the children are in a good routine with school. I even was able to attend Coopers cross country last week which was fun to go too! I've been fortunate that my nausea and fatigue is manageable but hey, this is just the beginning of chemo and often times we are warned that each session can get harder but I refuse to let that stop me at the moment. The main thing is trying to avoid getting sick, and to get adequate rest. Which is easier said than done. I got home from chemo on Thursday night to a very sick baby. I'm so greateful that Taylor is a very hands on daddy and supportive husband. He took one for the team and let me sleep and rest so that I can recover and he was up all night before heading off to work at 6am. I felt super guilty but it is what it is at the moment, how can you hear your baby grizzling and crying and just not get up and try to help? I tried but was told promptly to go back to bed, admittedly several times! And you know what? Taylor doesn't complain at all... at least not to my face :) haha

Have a great week, and remember to slow down, enjoy time with your loved ones and be greateful for the life you have.
