1st Chemo Done Experience

Ruby Smith

Thursday 10th August I went to Canopy Cancer Care for my first treatment.

The nurse Lou who was caring for me was lovely and caring. She answered any questions that I had and made me feel relaxed and ready to expereince whatever was going to happen.

It was such a relaxed day, I was given a blanket and pillow and had a nice lazy boy to lie in for what would be a long day. The first session was to be my longest, as it's the first time, they need to make sure I don't have any allergic reactions. Happy to report, I did not! I was quite sleepy for the day, due to the anti hestimine medicine.

6 hours flew by, Stacee my mother in law was my support person and she kept me busy with plenty of laughs....although I was a bit dopey.

Before I knew it, it was home time. By then, the allergy medicine had worn off and I had a lot of energy from the steroids. That meant I was able to be happy mama and wife for my family that night when I got home.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience and that's one less chemo down, 5 to go.

I'll report on my week following chemo with any side effects.
